Hey there, 👋 I’m so glad you’re here. Today I want to share my adoption story with you and talk about the importance of healing and finding closure. Adoption can be a beautiful and life-changing event, but it also comes with its own set of challenges and emotions. I hope that by sharing my story and what helped me heal, I can help someone going through the same thing.

My Adoption Story 📖

I was born in South Korea and adopted by a loving family in the United States when I was just a few months old. Growing up, I always knew I was adopted, but it wasn’t until I was older that I began to fully understand the impact it had on my life.

One of the biggest struggles for me was feeling like I didn’t belong or fit in. As much as I loved my family, I always felt a little different from them and the people around me. I also struggled with feelings of abandonment and wondering why my birth parents gave me up.

It wasn’t until I was in my twenties that I decided to start the journey of finding my birth family. With the help of a DNA test and a lot of research, I was able to locate my birth mother and half-siblings in Korea. It was a surreal experience connecting with them for the first time and learning about my past.

The Importance of Healing and Finding Closure 🌱

Adoption can bring up a lot of emotions, both positive and negative. It’s crucial to take the time to process these feelings and find healing and closure. Here are a few things that helped me:

1. Therapy 💆‍♀️

Going to therapy was a game-changer for me. It gave me a safe space to talk about my feelings and process everything that was coming up. I also found a therapist who specialized in adoption and was able to give me helpful tools and strategies for coping.

2. Community 🤝

Finding community with other adoptees was another crucial piece of my healing journey. Connecting with others who have similar experiences and can relate to what you’re going through is so important. It helped me feel less alone and gave me a sense of belonging. Look for local adoptee support groups or online communities.

3. Self-Care 🧘‍♀️

Taking care of yourself is essential when working through difficult emotions. This could look like practicing yoga or meditation, taking a relaxing bath, or simply setting aside time to do something you love. Whatever it is, make sure to prioritize self-care in your healing journey.

Final Thoughts 💭

Adoption is a complex and emotional journey, but it can also be incredibly beautiful. It’s okay to feel a range of emotions and to take the time to process them. Remember that healing and finding closure is a unique journey for everyone and there’s no right or wrong way to do it. But most importantly, know that you are not alone.
