As a book lover, Iā€™ve always been mesmerized by the world of fiction. Itā€™s intriguing to get lost in stories and explore new characters and lands that exist only in someoneā€™s imagination. And what makes it even more special is when we get a chance to meet the authors who bring these worlds to life. In this blog, I want to share my experiences of meeting some of my favorite authors and how those encounters surprised me in the most unexpected ways!

Expecting the Unexpected āœØ

The first time I met an author was when I got the opportunity to attend a book signing event hosted by my local library. I was thrilled to see my favorite author, but I also had set high expectations of what the encounter would be like. I thought I would meet the author, have a meaningful conversation about their book, take a picture, and voila! But, it didnā€™t go as planned.

When I reached the authorā€™s table, I saw a line of people waiting to greet her. I was so nervous that I couldnā€™t speak a word. And when my turn came, the experience of meeting her was rushed, and I didnā€™t get to say everything that I had planned. Later, I laughed and realized how my high expectations led to disappointment. From then on, I learned to go into these encounters expecting the unexpected and simply enjoy the experience.

A Connection Beyond the Book šŸ“š

Itā€™s incredible how books can connect strangers from different parts of the world. I met another favorite author at a literature festival, where she was giving a panel discussion. After the discussion, I gathered up the courage to approach her, and we talked about the characters in her book. But, surprisingly, we also ended up connecting on our shared love for a particular type of tea!

That interaction made me realize that when we connect with an author, itā€™s not just about the book. Thereā€™s more to them as individuals that we could connect with. Building a relationship beyond the book makes the experience of meeting an author even more memorable.

An Unexpected Lesson šŸŽ“

One of my favorite authors gave a talk on writing at my school, and I was thrilled to attend. During the talk, he shared his writing journey and all the challenges that came with it. He taught me that writing is not easy, but itā€™s also essential to trust the process and keep working.

At the end of the talk, I even got the chance to ask him a question. In that moment, I discovered that the author was funny and down-to-earth. And sharing his writing journey made it feel like he was speaking directly to me. I went home with a newfound motivation to work harder on my writing, which I still carry to this day.

A Surprise Meeting šŸ¤©

Last but not least, my most unexpected encounter happened when I accidentally bumped into an author I admired while shopping at a bookstore. At the time, I recognized her but couldnā€™t place her name.

As we stood in line at the checkout, we got talking about the books we were buying. And when she told me she was an author, thatā€™s when the realization hit me. I was standing right next to my favorite author, and it happened by chance! That encounter left me in disbelief and reminded me how special it is to have chance meetings with the people we admire.

In Conclusion šŸ“

Meeting your favorite authors can be an excellent way to connect with the books they write on a personal level. But, itā€™s essential to go into the encounter with an open mind and not set high expectations. Sometimes the unexpected moments can be the most memorable! And who knows, you may even learn a thing or two from your favorite author.
