We can’t talk about carnival costumes without starting off in Brazil, home of the legendary Rio Carnival 🎉 The carnival’s samba schools are famous for their over-the-top costumes, featuring feathers, jewels, and sequins galore 💎 The colors are vibrant and the designs are bold, reflecting the lively culture and spirit of Brazil 🌟

Trinidad and Tobago 🇹🇹

Next stop, Trinidad and Tobago, where carnival is a celebration of diversity, bringing together various cultural traditions🎊 The carnival is known for its “mas” bands, who march together with their vibrant, colorful, and often very revealing costumes 😜 These costumes, also known as “fairies,” embrace the beauty of the human form and celebrate the freedom of expression and individuality 🌈

Venice 🇮🇹

Ah, Venice! The city of masks 🎭 The carnival is a tradition that dates back to the 12th century. Here, the costumes are characterized by intricate masks and elaborate headpieces, and are inspired by the Venetian aristocracy of the 18th century 💫 Gold and silver are the primary colors, and the fabrics are often made of rich velvets and brocades.

Spain 🇪🇸

The famous carnival in Tenerife, Spain takes place in the weeks leading up to Lent 🎉 The costumes here are more on the funny side than the grandiose, featuring exaggerated shapes, oversized heads, and comic figures🤡 Costumes are usually made of paper mache and bright colors are used to convey joviality and humor.

Notting Hill, UK 🇬🇧

The Notting Hill Carnival in London is one of the most vibrant and multicultural street parties in the world 👀 The carnival is known for its eclectic mix of costumes, from traditional Caribbean-inspired clothing to modern-day fashion statements 🌟 Bright colors, feathers, and glitter are the norm - anything goes!

New Orleans, USA 🇺🇸

Last, but certainly not least, we have the Mardi Gras carnival in New Orleans, also known as the “Greatest Free Show on Earth” 🎭 The costumes here range from colorful and ornate to simple and traditional 🌟 The Mardi Gras Indians, a group of African American men, wear highly elaborate and intricate costumes with feathers, beads, and sequins, representing the rich culture and history of New Orleans.
