👋 Hey there! Welcome to my blog where I share my gluten-free travel experiences and tips. My name is Sarah, and as someone with celiac disease, I know how difficult it can be to travel while following a gluten-free diet. But I don’t let that stop me from exploring the world and discovering new cultures! In this blog, I’ll share some of my favorite travel tips, memorable experiences, and must-try gluten-free dishes from around the world. Let’s dive in! 🤗

Research, Research, Research!

Before embarking on any trip, I always do my research. It’s important to know what foods are safe to eat, what restaurants have gluten-free options, and if there are any grocery stores that carry gluten-free products. Don’t forget to explore the local cuisine as well! I use apps like Find Me Gluten Free, Yelp, and Allergy Travels to find gluten-free options in my destination.

Pack Your Snacks and Gluten-Free Essentials

While traveling, no matter how many delicious gluten-free meals you discover, always pack some gluten-free snacks and essentials. This way, you will always have something safe to eat in case of emergency. My go-to snacks are usually gluten-free cookies, nuts, dried fruit, and gluten-free granola bars. I also bring my own travel-sized containers of condiments like soy sauce, mayonnaise, and ketchup.

Communicate with Restaurant Staff

When eating out at a restaurant, always inform the staff of your dietary requirements. I usually say “I have celiac disease and cannot have any gluten. Is there a gluten-free menu or can you recommend gluten-free options?” Remember to also ask about cross-contamination and if they have a dedicated gluten-free area. It’s better to be safe than sorry!

Get Involved in Local Gluten-Free Communities

Joining local gluten-free communities online or in person can be very helpful. Not only can you get tips on where to eat and buy gluten-free products, but you can also connect with locals who share your dietary restrictions. I’ve made lifelong friends through these communities and they have made my travels even more special.
