Hey there, welcome to my journey! My name is Emily, and I am a dyslexic. I’ve had some tough moments in my life, trying to navigate the world while struggling with this learning difference, but I have also experienced incredible joy and success. I’m sharing my story to help those who may be struggling with dyslexia, to let you know that you’re not alone and there is hope.

Early Struggles 😞

As a child, I never understood why I had to struggle with reading and writing so much. It was frustrating to watch my peers easily pick up on new concepts while I had to spend hours trying to figure things out. I was often embarrassed to ask for help too, which only made things worse. 😔

It wasn’t until I got diagnosed with dyslexia that things started to make sense. However, even with the diagnosis, I still had to deal with the emotional impact the condition had on me. Dyslexia is often accompanied by other mental health issues like anxiety, and it was challenging to deal with all of this at such a young age.

Learning to Embrace Dyslexia 🤗

It wasn’t until high school that I started to come to terms with my dyslexia. Instead of viewing it as a weakness, I started to see it as a unique aspect of me that made me different from others. This shift in perspective made a significant difference in my emotional state, and I started to feel more confident in who I was.

I also started to seek out resources to help me overcome my dyslexia. Learning about assistive technology, like text-to-speech software, and different learning techniques gave me the tools I needed to succeed as a student and a professional.

Finding My Path 🚀

One of the biggest challenges I faced was figuring out what career path to take. Dyslexia can make it difficult to find your niche, but it’s not impossible. After finishing college, I started to work as a software engineer, which was an excellent fit for my dyslexia.

I discovered that my ability to think differently gave me a unique perspective when it came to problem-solving, and I was able to bring a lot of value to my team. It was a reassurance that dyslexia doesn’t have to hold you back and that there is a path out there for everyone.
