As a Gen Z, I’ve grown up with social media being an integral part of my life. We’re the first generation to have grown up with social media being a primary source of communication, entertainment, and information. However, with the constant advancements in technology and the ever-evolving social media landscape, it’s important to understand the latest trends and habits of our generation when it comes to social media. In this blog, we’ll explore the latest trends and habits of Generation Z and social media.

Trend #1: Short-form Content 🎥

With the rise of TikTok and Instagram Reels, short-form content has become increasingly popular amongst Gen Z. We desire content that is easily digestible, visually engaging, and most importantly, authentic. Short-form content allows us to consume a large amount of information without feeling overwhelmed. Brands that can create engaging, visually stunning, and authentic short-form content have the potential to capture our attention.

Trend #2: Personalization 🎨

Gen Z is a diverse and multicultural generation, and we gravitate towards brands that recognize and celebrate our differences. Personalization is a key factor for brands to win our loyalty. From personalized ads to targeted content, we want to see ourselves and our values being reflected in the brands we engage with. This has resulted in brands investing heavily in data analytics and AI-based personalization techniques to provide a hyper-personalized experience.

Trend #3: Social Causes 🌍

Gen Z is passionate about social causes and advocating for change. Social media has provided us with a platform to raise awareness and take action. We expect the brands we engage with to take a stance on social issues and engage in social activism. Brands that do not take an active role or remain neutral on social causes run the risk of losing our business.

Trend #4: Privacy 🔐

Gen Z is very conscious of privacy and security concerns. We value our privacy and are wary of how our data is being used. We have seen multiple high-profile data breaches and scandals and are taking these incidents seriously. Brands that prioritize privacy and data protection have a better chance of winning our trust and loyalty.
