10 Classic TV Characters We Wish Had Their Own Spinoff
Hey there, TV lovers! It’s your favorite entertainment aficionado back again, and I’m here to let you in on a little secret - spinoffs are awesome! There’s nothing quite like watching a beloved character step into the spotlight and take on new challenges and adventures. But in the vast world of television, not every character gets the chance to shine on their own. That’s why I’ve put together a list of the top 10 classic TV characters we wish had their own spinoff.
1. Barney Stinson - How I Met Your Mother
Barney Stinson is undoubtedly one of the most legendary characters in sitcom history. His charisma, humor, and undeniable charm kept us glued to our screens throughout the entire run of How I Met Your Mother. And while the show’s ending may have been controversial, there’s one thing we can all agree on - we want more Barney! Can you imagine what kind of trouble he could get into on his own? Let’s suit up and find out!
2. Troy and Abed - Community
Community may have ended its run in 2014, but we’re still holding out hope for a spinoff featuring the show’s dynamic duo, Troy and Abed. These two may have been polar opposites in many ways, but their friendship was the stuff of legend. It’s hard to imagine a more entertaining pair to watch navigate the trials and tribulations of everyday life. Plus, we just really want to see “Troy and Abed in the morning” become a reality.
3. Cristina Yang - Grey’s Anatomy
For many Grey’s Anatomy fans, the departure of Cristina Yang was a blow that the show has never fully recovered from. And while we love watching the rest of the Grey Sloan Memorial doctors go through their drama-filled lives, there’s just something special about Cristina. A spinoff following her successful career in Switzerland would be a perfect opportunity to dive deeper into her character and experience some new medical mysteries along the way.
4. Cosmo Kramer - Seinfeld
Seinfeld may have been “a show about nothing,” but there’s one character who never failed to bring the laughs - Cosmo Kramer. His wacky antics and bizarre schemes were some of the most memorable moments in the show’s history. And with Seinfeld now long gone, it’s time for Kramer to make a return to the small screen. We can already picture the wild adventures he would get into living on his own in New York City.
5. Saul Goodman - Breaking Bad
Breaking Bad may have ended years ago, but its spinoff Better Call Saul has become a hit in its own right. However, we’re not satisfied with just one spinoff - we need more of the show’s lovable, sleazy lawyer, Saul Goodman. We would love to see a show that follows Saul’s life in the years before he met Walter White, chronicling his rise to becoming one of the best criminal defense attorneys in Albuquerque.
6. Dwight Schrute - The Office
The Office may have ended in 2013, but we still have a soft spot for one of its most eccentric characters - Dwight Schrute. His love for beets, bears, and Battlestar Galactica made him a fan favorite, and we think he deserves a chance to continue his unique brand of humor in a spinoff of his own. Whether he’s working on the family beet farm or starting his own private investigation firm, we would watch anything that featured Dwight as the lead.
7. Titus Andromedon - Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt may be over, but there’s one character who we simply can’t get enough of - Titus Andromedon. His larger-than-life personality and incredible vocal talents made him an instant hit with audiences. We would love to see a spinoff that follows his life as a Broadway star, or even as a judge on one of those reality competition shows. No matter what the premise, we know we would be thoroughly entertained.
8. Leslie Knope - Parks and Recreation
Parks and Recreation may be one of the most beloved sitcoms of all time, but there’s one character who we feel didn’t get enough time in the spotlight - Leslie Knope. Her unrelenting optimism, dedication to her job, and love for waffles made her an instant fan favorite. And while we know she eventually became the governor of Indiana, we think there’s still more story to tell. A spinoff following her tenure as governor or even as president would be the perfect way to catch up with our favorite Pawnee resident.
9. Cousin Larry - Perfect Strangers
Perfect Strangers may be a show that many viewers remember fondly, but its spinoff potential might not be as obvious. However, we’re convinced that Cousin Larry Appleton, played by Mark Linn-Baker, has what it takes to carry a show on his own. Whether he’s navigating the dating world or trying to make it in the big city, we think there’s a lot of humor to be found in his misadventures.
10. Chandler Bing and Joey Tribbiani - Friends
Last but certainly not least, we have to talk about Chandler Bing and Joey Tribbiani from Friends. While there’s no denying that the show’s ensemble cast was phenomenal together, there’s something about these two that has always stood out. Their bromance was one for the ages, and we would love to see what kind of hijinks they could get into on their own. Whether it’s starting their own business or taking on the dating world as a team, we know they would be just as hilarious without their other friends around.
And there you have it - 10 classic TV characters that we wish had their own spinoff. While it’s unlikely that any of these shows will ever come to fruition, it’s always fun to dream. Who knows? Maybe one day we’ll be turning on our TVs and seeing Barney, Troy and Abed, Cristina, or any of the other characters on this list back in action. We can only hope!
